Up-skilling for today’s forestry and tomorrow’s timber products

Have we got the necessary education, skills and training to understand the complexities of a “resilient” forest that will deliver the right timber for the exciting developments in wood uses?

  1. Andy Leitch from FCS/Scottish Enterprise on the latest work of the Scottish Forestry & Timber Technologies Industry Leadership Group and the Timber Development Programme.
  2. Dr Elizabeth Barron-Majerik from the Scottish School of Forestry, Inverness College UHI reported on the recent Skills & Training scoping study, explaining how the following up work from the review is progressing and how industry can input in the future to make sure we have the education, skills & training we need.
  3. Dr Scott McG. Wilson will explain the potential of upland Sitka spruce/alternative conifer “insurance” mixtures, and comment on timber properties of key potential companion conifers.
